Mini Consult

Mini Consult

Do you have a few questions about your baby and breastfeeding that don’t necessarily warrant a full 60-90 minute consultation? For those small issues or quick questions you may have, I offer a “mini-consult”. This 30 minute or less consult, I can answer any questions you may have about any topic that pertains to breastfeeding, pumping, back to work issues, weaning, etc. We can either chat by phone or virtually on your computer. If your issue is more complicated than a phone call and further evaluation is necessary, I will suggest we schedule a longer consultation. This mini-consult is for parents with questions that do not require a full assessment, but would like professional advice and assistance with breastfeeding.

Prenatal Labor, Delivery, and Lactation Education

When preparing for the arrival of your baby, it is important to arm yourself with as much information as possible. What to expect in terms of your labor and delivery and how to prepare yourself so that you and your baby will have the best start to your breastfeeding journey is key.

Having worked as a labor and delivery nurse, I understand how individualized assistance with breastfeeding after the delivery of your baby may not always be possible from hospital staff. I will help you prepare so that you will be able to get the best start possible and be available to you right away after the birth of your baby if needed.

Latch Assessment for Painful Breastfeeding

Nipple pain, nipple damage can be caused by an incorrect latch. A latch assessment will be performed to help maneuver the best latch and positioning to improve comfort and milk removal.

Milk Supply Issues

For babies that are having issues with gaining weight or returning to birth weight, mom’s supply may be the issue. Some babies might have reflux or choke when feeding at the breast that may be due to an oversupply or a strong letdown. Together we can develop a plan to help overcome the issues related to milk supply.

Premature or Late-Term Infants, Multiples

There can be special challenges with breastfeeding for a baby who has spent time in a NICU, is born early, is small for gestational age, or you’re feeding multiple babies. If your baby was given only bottles after their birth or is having any breast refusal at all, and you would like to get them to directly feed at the breast, it is possible to get your baby to latch and feed again!

Inducing Lactation or Re-lactation

Are you adopting a baby and would like to induce lactation? Are you wanting to re-lactate after stopping breastfeeding for any reason? It’s possible and if that is your goal, I can help you achieve it.

Evaluating and Supporting Tethered Oral Tissue and Oral Dysfunction

Do you suspect your baby has a tongue-tie? Has your baby gotten a tongue-tie release and you are still having difficulty breastfeeding? Whatever your difficulty is right now, it is unique and should be given specific attention to you and your baby’s needs. There is a lot of information circulating right now on this issue and I am here to help you wade through it and guide you with my experience in this area.

Breast Pumping, Flange Sizing

Which breast pump is right for you? What size breast flange should you be using? Not having the right size breast pump flange can cause problems. You may not be getting the most amount of breast milk possible if you are using the wrong size flange. This is especially important if you are returning to work and will be incorporating pumping into your daily schedule. I can help you measure so that you are using the proper size flange and your breast pump correctly.

Introducing Solids and Weaning Support

These are two very important milestones in your child’s life. Sometimes it is difficult to navigate how to introduce solids along with breastfeeding. Also, when the time comes that you and your child decide to end your breastfeeding journey, you may need some guidance in making that transition as easy for you both as possible. I am here to help!
